The established process of REB approval is:
- Submit application via ROMEO database
- Files are date stamped and processed on first-come, first-served basis
- If the file requires a Full Board Review (Interventional studies only), the file is assigned to the next available meeting date for review.
- If the file does not require a Full Board Review (Non-Interventional studies), the file is assigned to 1 board member and 1 co-chair for review and is not required to go to a meeting. These files are also reviewed by the REB manager or Research Ethics Coordinator.
- Usually, the next meeting date applicable is the 2nd Monday after each Friday deadline
- Ex: File requiring Full Board Review is submitted on Nov 10th, would be reviewed at the Nov 20th meeting
- However, each meeting has a capacity and sometimes the number of files submitted before the deadline exceeds the capacity of an upcoming meeting. When this happens, files are assigned to the next available meeting based on time stamp and availability.
- Files are reviewed and additional information is requested before approval.
In addition to meeting capacity, delays in reviews can happen if a file is incomplete or inadequate. To help communicate meeting capacities, the REB is now listing a Meeting Status in addition to the submission deadlines and meeting dates on this page. This page will be updated as information becomes available.
Please note: file review does not guarantee approval and additional information will be required after review to reach approval status. This page is also for information only and while a best effort is made to provide information regarding upcoming meetings, the agenda is approved the REB manager.
