Welcome to our new HR Lead, Research- Dawn Munroe!

Dawn joined Research in January 2019 after Judi Thompson’s retirement. Dawn comes to Research after joining NSHA in 2017 following 10 + years in the non-profit sector as a Director of HR.

As HR Lead, Research, Dawn assists in recruitment, screening & selection of new employees, facilitates performance management, advises managers on organizational policy and legislation and provides continued support in all areas of human resources.

Dawn loves being active outdoors and enjoys meeting new people. If you haven’t yet, stop by her office and say hi!

Welcome New NSHA Research Services Staff!

We are pleased to welcome new staff to Research Services!

Michele Chappell Michele Chappell is the newest addition to the Research Services team and is now our Program Manager, Research Quality. She is available to assist Researchers and staff in understanding their regulatory responsibilities for their research projects. She also conducts study reviews, performs internal quality audits and assists teams during external audits. Michele is an RN who comes from endocrinology research where she was a research coordinator for 7 years. She has 4 children and her ideal day ends with a good book at her cottage after a run.

Hannah Abel Hannah Abel joins the Contracts & Grants team as the Coordinator, Contract Facilitation and Support. She facilitates industry sponsored research happening at NSHA. She helps negotiate study budgets, reviews contracts and handles contract and budget amendments.   She came to us in July 2018 from the Interprofessional practice and learning portfolio where spent 5 years.  She likes spending time with her family outdoors.

Sheryl-Lynn Forward You may remember seeing Sheryl-Lynn Forward when she was with us as the executive assistant to past Vice President, Research Tom Marrie.  She's signed on with us again in July 2018 as HR Admin Coordinator. She's helping HR Manager Judi Thompson with tasks in People Services and lending a hand with the research education program.  Sheryl-Lynn enjoys hiking, cycling and gardening. She is a mother to an adult daughter as well as her pets.

On October 11th, 2018, the Research Education Program is holding a "Welcome to the New Faces of Research Services" education session in the RMU room from 12pm-1:00pm. If you are hoping to meet some of our new staff, this session is for you, please register to attend.

Welcome Steven Cromlish

We welcome our new Finance Clerk- Steven Cromlish! 

Steven joined NSHA in December 2017 as a member of the Research Finance team. He is available to help with any questions relating to general account inquiries from invoicing, revenues, expenses, reimbursement requests, and account openings.

Prior to joining NSHA, Steven worked with the Municipal Group of Companies and CBMAS Inc. He studied at Mount Allison University graduating with a degree in Commerce/Accounting and Math. He is currently enrolled in a CPA program and hopes to challenge the CFE exam in September 2018.

In addition to all things finance, Steven enjoys golfing, hanging out with friends, watching sports (HABS, DOLPHINS) and going hiking.

Welcome Dr. Thomas Marrie

Dr. Thomas Marrie

We welcome Dr. Thomas Marrie as the interim Vice President Research, Innovation & Knowledge Translation at NSHA. 

Dr. Thomas Marrie is an accomplished researcher, administrator and infectious disease specialist. Having studied pneumonia for more than 4 decades, Dr. Marrie came full circle as the 14th Dean of Dalhousie Medical School (2009-2014) – the very institution where he studied medicine. 

As Dean, he ended his tenure with several significant accomplishments. The first class of the expansion of Dalhousie Medical School (Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick) graduated in 2014 and an increased number of African-Nova Scotians now are enrolling in medical school.  

A priority as Dean was to increase research capacity and in 2013 Canada’s First Endowed Occupational Medicine Research Chair was established with J.D. Irving. 

Dr. Marrie is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and served as the President of the board from 2011-2013.
